Kids UX
Most kids are curious about technology, but coding often feels complicated, boring, or intimidating. Codeherd wanted to change that by making coding approachable, engaging, and fun.
Codeherd was designed as a story-driven coding platform, where learning comes alive through a shepherd-and-sheep adventure. Each completed code challenge unlocks progress in the story — for example, the shepherd rescuing a sheep. Illustrations became the friendly face of the platform, guiding kids through challenges and rewarding them along the way.

Shaped the overall UX strategy by connecting coding lessons to story-driven rewards.
Scripted illustration concepts that defined the shepherd-and-sheep world, giving Codullam its visual identity.
Designed a kid-friendly UI that balanced playfulness with clarity.
Helped Codeherd position itself as more than just a learning tool — but a game-like experience that kids want to engage with.
The big question: how do kids stay excited about coding? Research showed they respond best to stories, visuals, and small wins. That insight shaped the idea of turning coding lessons into a shepherd’s journey.
I mapped the learning path into story-driven milestones — every time a child solves a coding challenge, the shepherd rescues a sheep. This turned abstract problem-solving into a visible, playful reward system.
To make the story world feel alive, I scripted illustration prompts for the illustrator. These visuals became the emotional hook for kids to stay engaged.
I translated the narrative into an interface that was bright, simple, and easy to navigate — minimal text, big visual cues, and intuitive flows designed for younger users.
In the review process. educators tested the lesson flow to check if challenges built progressively in difficulty, and whether instructions were clear enough for kids without adult intervention.
Based on their input, I refined:
Instructions - simplified course tasks and summary that are easy to grasp at a glance.
Challenge structure - adjusted difficulty levels to better match age and grade ranges.
Overview
Codeherd is a playful coding platform for kids, built around the journey of a shepherd and his sheep. The illustrations act as the friendly face of the platform, guiding, rewarding, and encouraging kids as they learn to code through story-driven challenges and interactive visuals.
